Aha! So there is a reason why grandmas are so loved by our children šŸ‘¶šŸ‘§šŸ‘¦

In studying the brain activity of grandmothersšŸ‘µ, researchers at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, found grandmothers experience more emotional empathy with their grandchildren than with their adult kids.

This could maybe explain why they instantly get super happy when they see their Nana šŸ˜

Researchers at Emory University sought to use functional magnetic šŸ§² resonance imaging to examine what happened in a grandmotherā€™s šŸ‘µšŸ¼ brain when they looked at photos šŸ“ø of a grandchildšŸ‘§šŸ¼, their adult childšŸ‘©šŸ¼ā€šŸ’¼, an unrelated child šŸ‘¦šŸ», and an unrelated adult šŸ‘ØšŸ½ in a study recently published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

5ļøāƒ£0ļøāƒ£ grandmothers with at least one biological grandchild between the ages of 3ļøāƒ£ and 1ļøāƒ£2ļøāƒ£ years old were asked to participate in this study. They found that different areas of the brain šŸ§  activate when grandmothers would look at their grandchild compared to their own adult children.

Whatā€™s even more fascinating is the activation in areas of the brain šŸ§  associated with emotional empathy. This explains that grandmothers are geared towards feeling what their grandchildren are feeling when they communicate with them. For example if their grandchild is crying šŸ’§, theyā€™re feeling distress and pain in the child, when their grandchild is smiling šŸ˜€, theyā€™re feeling the childā€™s joy.

Hands Down to all our amazing Grandmothers! ā¤ļø
